A lithograph cover for Emigre magazine in which Zuzana Licko uses minimal shapes and striking typography to announce the publication and its contributors.
On coarse brown paper a small circle split into black and mustard sits exactly on a central fold, the tall, condensed word “EMIGRE” cutting vertically through the dark half while a tight column of tiny names on the yellow half and a small geometric ‘E’ create a quiet, modern tension.
This is emblematic of Emigre’s early work—using novel, computer-informed type and austere, experimental layouts to redefine graphic design and promote independent, typographic exploration in the digital age.
