11th Avenue & 26th Street, from 19 Rainstorms
Neil Goldberg
American, born 1963
1998-2003
A three-minute color-and-sound video in which Neil Goldberg films a rain-smeared view of 11th Avenue and 26th Street, using blurred motion and weather to turn an ordinary intersection into a quiet study of perception.
You’re met with a soft blue-green wash of out-of-focus shapes, rain-speckled textures and a slanted dark line across the frame, with a small red light recurring as an accidental focal point.
By privileging atmospheric detail over narrative, the work blurs documentary and abstraction to show how everyday weather can alter and deepen our experience of urban space.
