Untitled
Louise Bourgeois
American, born France. 1911–2010
2002
A screenprint in red that depicts a vertical, egglike form of nested looping lines and small circular nodes, through which Bourgeois compresses her ongoing meditation on the body, memory, and containment.
You first notice the spare, almost hand-drawn red line floating on a luminous white sheet—its symmetrical oval and inner loops with tiny circles read as both a seedlike pod and a vulnerable interior space.
This late work translates Bourgeois’s sculptural, bodily vocabulary into a distilled graphic sign, linking modern biomorphic abstraction to feminist explorations of intimacy, trauma, and psychological enclosure.
