Untitled #13
José Antonio Suárez Londoño
Colombian, born 1955
1979-84
An etching and aquatint that stages a small, ambiguous urban tableau—figures gathered at a stoop and a man watching from the street—to prompt questions about observation, encounter, and social distance.
The tiny, dusky scene sits high on a wide sheet: soft aquatint tones and sharp etched lines present a silhouetted observer, a seated couple, and scrawled handwritten captions that make the image feel like a clipped moment of a larger story.
Working within late‑20th‑century Latin American printmaking, the piece fuses text and image to extend etching’s narrative power and to make visible everyday urban tensions and the politics of the gaze.
