Untitled
Giuseppe Chiari
Italian, 1926–2007
1979
A felt‑tip pen on paper in which Chiari reduces musical and performative ideas to spare, hand‑drawn symbols—turning a score into a visual, actionable proposition.
Bold, quick black marks—Xs, angular brackets, vertical bars, a small loop and an arrow—sit with wide white space, giving the page the dry, improvisational presence of a sketched instruction rather than a finished picture.
Rooted in Fluxus thinking, this work collapses drawing and musical notation to help open up graphic scores and the notion that simple written instructions and everyday gestures can themselves be artworks and performances.
