A small ink-and-pencil sketch in which VALIE EXPORT works out staging, framing, and light/movement relationships for an experimental film or performance, using simple diagrams and arrows to test how a screen and viewer interact.
Sparse, economy-driven marks catch the eye: tiny shaded vignettes of a rectangular ‘screen,’ directional arrows, and quick rig/lighting sketches set against broad white space, as if thinking through projection and motion on the page.
Created during 1967–68, the drawing documents EXPORT’s investigation of cinematic space and spectatorship and points to the 1960s’ shift toward feminist, conceptual, and expanded approaches to film and performance.
