A small bright-green-and-white laptop made from durable plastic and rubber, created by the One Laptop per Child project to provide an affordable, rugged computer for children's learning.
Its toy-like clamshell—with a chunky cylindrical hinge, built-in speaker surrounds, tiny keyboard and upward-pointing antenna 'ears'—reads as both playful and purposeful, signaling durability and child-centered use at a glance.
Developed to put inexpensive, low-power computers into schools worldwide, the XO helped define child-focused, low-cost design and influenced later netbooks, community networking ideas, and approaches to educational technology.
