A 1930 journal cover by El Lissitzky that uses lithographed photomontage and bold letterpress typography to stage the American skyscraper as a machine-like modern icon.
At first glance it feels like a mechanical dream: layered images of high-rise facades and crisscrossing steel trusses climb the page beneath a blunt, mustard-yellow "AMERIKA," producing a dense, vertiginous skyline.
The design brought constructivist montage and typographic precision to architectural publicity, helping to internationalize modernist aesthetics and shape how the skyscraper was imagined as a symbol of progress.
