Franz Erhard Walther
German, born 1939
1969
A set of sewn white fabric modules and straps stored in a simple plywood shelving unit, made to be handled, worn, and activated by people rather than treated as a passive object.
It looks at first like neatly stacked bedding in a plain pine crate, but the rolled canvases, ties, and handles read as purposeful implements—quiet, domestic, and insistently suggestive of bodily use.
Walther’s work helped shift sculpture from static object to temporal, participatory act, opening paths for body-centered performance and relational practices in contemporary art.
