Nevydařený den (Not the Luckiest Day) (Poster for Czechoslovak distribution of Soviet film directed by Jurij Jegorov)
Jiří Hilmar
Czech, born 1937
1967
A lithograph film poster that uses a bold, gestural black heart and small red motifs to advertise the Czechoslovak release of a Soviet comedy, aiming to suggest a blend of romance, mischance, and ironic humor.
What hits you first is a huge, rough ink–splattered black heart dominating a pale ground, pierced visually by a tiny ornate red globe and a descending trail of red four‑petaled shapes that lead the eye down to the stark, lowercase Czech title.
Created in 1967, the work is a striking example of the Czech poster school's ability to fuse painterly mark‑making, symbolic minimalism, and clear typography, turning commercial film promotion into a field for artistic experimentation and wry commentary.
