A gelatin silver print of a lone rower in a small boat, in which Kender freezes a fleeting, everyday moment of motion and light on the water.
From a high angle the weathered dock slices into the frame while ripples and bright sparkles lead the eye to the silhouetted rower, creating a taut interplay of texture, reflection, and shadow.
Working in the postwar documentary vein, Kender transforms an ordinary scene into a formal study of composition and light, showing how photography could find modernist lyricism in everyday life.
