A printed exhibition poster by Fiona Banner that overlays bold, declarative typography across a soft-focus black-and-white photograph of a partially nude figure, using a promotional format to make a statement about how text frames and controls the viewing of bodies.
What first hits you is the monumental, blocky type occupying the foreground while, behind it, a blurred nude and a figure with their back turned register as corporeal, anonymous presences that the lettering both announces and obscures.
By turning a gallery announcement into a layered image–text work, Banner blurs the line between publicity and art and pushes contemporary practice toward using advertising formats to critique representation, the photographic gaze, and the power of language over the body.
