Jackie Winsor: Work in Progress: Part I, II, III
Jackie Winsor
American, born Canada. 1941–2024
Liza Béar
British, born 1942
1975–1978
A color video with sound by Liza Béar that documents sculptor Jackie Winsor’s physical, hands-on process as she builds and manipulates a large work over time.
You'd first be struck by a dark, tightly wrapped spherical mass sitting on a bed of fallen leaves in a wooded setting, its layered bands and rough texture conveying intensive, manual labor and a sense of unfinished becoming.
The tape foregrounds the artist’s labor and process, using documentary video to bring postminimal sculpture and studio practice into a performative, feminist-aware discourse and to expand how art-making could be seen and shared.
