Alberto Greco ¡Qué Grande Sos!
Sameer Makarius
Argentine, born Egypt. 1924–2009
1961
A gelatin silver print that records a 1961 street postering in which the photographer aimed to show how an artist’s presence and promotion are staged within everyday urban life.
The image immediately strikes with oversized block-letter posters pasted across a rough wall, a man at center working to affix them while a woman walks past at left, all set against ladders, torn paper, and the gritty texture of the sidewalk.
By documenting ephemeral street-posting and the crowding of public surfaces, this photograph preserves and highlights a tactic of midcentury art promotion and performance, linking documentary photography to the rise of conceptual and public-facing practices in Latin America.
