Carlos González Bogen
Venezuelan, 1920–1992
1949
An oil on board geometric abstraction in which Bogen arranges interlocking yellow, red, and white forms against a textured brown ground to probe spatial rhythm and balance.
You’re first struck by jewel‑bright yellow shapes, cut with black outlines and clustered along a central vertical seam, set against a warm, swirled brown field that feels at once architectural and hand‑made.
Made in 1949, the painting is part of postwar Latin American abstraction that adapted European constructivist ideas into local materials and rhythms, helping define a modernist visual language in Venezuela and beyond.
