An artist's book that reinvents the traditional Chinese lianhuanhua comic-book form—using staged photographs, text, and graphic design—to examine everyday life, collectivity, and the language of bureaucracy.
A candid, slightly compressed color photograph dominates the cover: five men press close in a small bunkroom, intent on a slim book, their faces lit against pale walls and set above bold blue Chinese characters along the lower edge.
By repurposing a familiar vernacular format, the work connects mass print culture and contemporary art practice in China, using the artist's book to probe how political language and collective life circulate and are represented.
