Venn Diagrams (Under the Spotlight)
Amalia Pica
Argentine, born 1978
2011
An interactive light sculpture that uses stage spotlights and motion sensors to project two colored circles whose overlap appears and shifts as viewers move, turning theatrical equipment into a participatory diagram.
Two luminous, soft-edged discs—one pink, one mint—hover on the wall in a clean Venn-like overlap while the black metal rigs and cables of the spotlights sit like an exposed stage foreground.
By converting stage lighting into a simple social diagram, Pica makes visible how presence, movement, and relation shape meaning, linking performance technology to collective experience and conceptual representation.
