Luisa Armchair
Franco Albini
Italian, 1905–1977
1951
A slender wooden armchair upholstered in red fabric, created to marry precise joinery and a light, everyday modern presence in wood and fabric.
What first catches the eye is the angular, almost skeletal walnut frame with diagonal legs and continuous armrests contrasted by the vivid red, slim seat and back cushions that seem to float within the structure.
A signature of postwar Italian design, it shows Franco Albini’s effort to reconcile traditional craftsmanship with industrial production, helping to define a refined, economical modern furniture language.
