A screenprint with metal foil on paper in which Thom Mayne translates a proposed Santa Monica house into layered isometric and plan fragments to probe complex spatial relationships and movement.
You’re struck by a dense collage of translucent gray planes and rust-red and teal volumes, all stitched together by precise axonometric lines and flashes of metal foil that give the poster an uncanny, rotating, machine‑like depth.
The work exemplifies a late‑20th‑century shift toward drawings as experimental objects, advancing a fragmented, diagrammatic visual language that helped pave the way for deconstructivist and later digital/parametric architectural practices.
