Gabriel Orozco
Mexican, born 1962
1996
A rubbed-graphite drawing that records the repeating perforations of a found object, turning its surface into a quiet, centered trace on the paper.
A narrow vertical rectangle of small, concentric circles repeats like a patterned barcode at the center of a wide white field, its crisp imprints softened by smoky graphite smudges and a few darker filled-in dots.
Part of Orozco’s exploration of traces and chance, this work collapses sculpture and drawing by making the overlooked textures of everyday objects into a delicate record of touch and time.
