Per Purificare le Parole, "Pyrex"
Gilberto Zorio
Italian, born 1944
1981
A large ink on paper in which Gilberto Zorio lets fluid, reactive stains record a single looping, necklace-like form, exploring drawing as the trace of material action.
The pale, expansive sheet is dominated by one sinuous loop whose ink varies from dense, beadlike droplets to feathered washes and scattered splatters, so the mark feels like the dried residue of a moving liquid rather than a conventional pen stroke.
By evoking laboratory glass with the title “Pyrex” and treating ink as a reactive, performative material, Zorio connects drawing to alchemical and industrial processes and helped push postwar art toward a focus on material transformation and gesture.
