Parc de la Villette Project, Paris, France (Planetary Strip)
Zaha Hadid
British, born Iraq. 1950–2016
1982-83
An ink-on-tracing-paper architectural drawing by Zaha Hadid proposing a 'Planetary Strip'—a schematic, sharply angled reorganization of paths and functions across Parc de la Villette expressed as intersecting gestures.
A sparse pale field punctured by precise black lines and skinny planes that converge into a long diagonal, so that movement and void read as boldly as the drawn strokes.
This competition study from 1982–83 crystallizes Hadid’s radical, diagrammatic approach—part of the deconstructivist moment—that treated architecture as performative drawing and helped open paths toward later parametric and computational practices.
