The Dream

The Dream

Wyatt Kahn
American, born 1983
2021
A large-scale lithograph in which Wyatt Kahn uses repeated, brushy looped marks to make tangible the motor energy of drawing and to conjure a knotlike, dreamlike space between figure and ground.
Youʼre first struck by a heavy, black mass of coiled, scribbled rings layered over a smudged gray square—their rough texture, overlapping rhythms, and scraped edges create a sense of depth and restless, meditative motion.
By translating intense, repetitive gestural marks into a monumental print, Kahn bridges drawing and printmaking and continues a modernist interest in process, repetition, and the bodily trace of the hand.
