Time Twin Studies, Contact Sheets
Tarrah Krajnak
American, born Peru, 1979

A gelatin silver contact-sheet portrait in which the maker stages repeated exposures and shadowed doubles to examine time, identity, and the trace of presence.
You first notice a 3-by-4 array of near-identical black-and-white frames: a single figure shifting subtly from shot to shot while a darker silhouette and slashes of light repeat and interrupt the images, creating a staccato, cinematic rhythm.
By making the contact sheet—the photographer’s selection tool—the finished artwork, this piece collapses photographic decision-making into a meditation on temporality, the construction of self, and the archival possibilities of photography.
