An inkjet print that uses a grid of white eggs arranged on a Brazilian newspaper to make a simple household item an index for measuring the poverty line.
What first arrests you is the stark whiteness and smoothness of the eggs set against the noisy color ads and hard news of the paper—an intimate, domestic count imposed on public information.
The work translates abstract economic data into a tactile, everyday unit, joining social-issue art and data-visualization to make visible how poverty is measured in terms of basic foodstuffs.
