Libro Chair
Studio Gruppo 14
Italian
1970
A low, sculptural armchair made of layered polyurethane foam and vinyl over a steel frame that unfolds like an oversized, padded book, intended to turn seating into a playful, transformable object.
It reads at once like a giant fanned book and a coiled shell—the alternating black-and-white cushioned ‘pages’ curve in an accordion spiral from seat to back, giving a rhythmic, tactile presence and a surprising sense of motion.
Made in 1970 by Gruppo DAM, the Libro Chair is a touchstone of radical Italian design, combining humor, modularity, and sculptural form to challenge conventional domestic furniture and promote flexible, artful objects for everyday life.
