Page from The Taste of Others
Maurizio Cattelan
Italian, born 1960
2011
A page from Maurizio Cattelan’s illustrated book produced as an offset print (with one hand-painted gouache and ink vignette), in which the artist uses the book-page format to make a single work that slyly mixes printed text and a small visual joke about display and context.
You first register the dense, magazine‑like columns of type surrounding a single, jewel‑bright painted doorway inset like a miniature window, all set within wide white margins and a small page number at the foot.
By treating a printed page as an artwork, Cattelan participates in a lineage of artist books and appropriation art that blurs reproduction and original, using everyday editorial formats to question museums, authorship, and how art is shown.
