Bosforo
Mimmo Paladino
Italian, born 1948
(1982, published 1983)
A sheet from Bosforo, one of six prints in a portfolio where Mimmo Paladino uses woodcut and linoleum cut with collage to compress archaic, mythic imagery into flat, tactile color surfaces that feel like fragments of an imagined landscape.
You first notice a broad, even field of warm rose—its paper texture, tiny marks, and the small printed label at the lower right interrupting the silence—creating a restrained, almost meditative presence.
Made during the early 1980s Transavanguardia moment, these prints show how Paladino reinvigorated traditional printmaking to reintroduce myth, materiality, and symbolic presence into late‑twentieth‑century art, bridging abstraction and renewed figuration.
