A drypoint and aquatint print in which Hitzler uses violently incised, scratchy marks to render a tall, ghostlike figure, seeking to make inner anxiety and isolation visible through the materiality of printmaking.
What strikes you first is the figure’s vertical stillness set against a seething field of crosshatched, frenetic lines that seem to vibrate and press the sitter into shadow, giving the image an uncanny, suspended presence.
The print links postwar German expressionist concerns with contemporary intaglio practice, showing how drypoint and aquatint can be stretched toward psychological intensity and atmospheric abstraction to explore vulnerability and alienation.
