Untitled, plate 10 of 14, from the portfolio, Autobiographical Series
Louise Bourgeois
American, born France. 1911–2010
1994
A drypoint print in which Louise Bourgeois renders a small, intimate bedroom scene with spare, childlike lines to confront memory, family, and the body.
On a wide expanse of white, a diminutive, casually sketched figure sits upright at the head of a bed while two legs and clasped hands protrude toward the viewer—an image at once naive, comic, and disquieting.
From her Autobiographical Series, this late work condenses psychoanalytic memory and bodily vulnerability into minimal marks, showing how Bourgeois made personal narrative and domestic experience central to contemporary art and printmaking.
