1969
A 1969 silkscreen poster by Milton Glaser for The Paris Review that uses four repeated images of a green patterned armchair to reveal, panel by panel, a nude woman emerging into view—an experiment in sequential storytelling rendered in bold, flat color.
You first notice the vivid, cartoon‑like green armchair patterned with flowers and overlaid by a yellow grid, and then realize the four stacked panels are a slow, playful sequence—empty chair, head, leg, full seated figure—so the image reads like a single, unfolding visual gag.
Produced at the height of Push Pin Studios’ influence, this work blends commercial design and fine art by using silkscreen’s bright, flat colors and repetition to push magazine imagery toward narrative, humor, and visual experimentation.
