Berlin: Moholy-Nagy

László Moholy-Nagy
American, born Hungary. 1895–1946
c. 1928
A letterpress poster in which Moholy-Nagy fuses photographic fragments, photogram-like abstractions, and typography to present a dynamic, modernist image of Berlin and avant-garde design.
A deep black picture plane filled with disembodied faces, spirals and sharp diagonals contrasts with a pale column showing a stylized dancing figure, creating a theatrical collage of light, shadow and movement that feels kinetic and otherworldly.
A key example of Bauhaus-era experimentation, it helped legitimize photomontage and photogram techniques in graphic design, advancing a visual language of abstraction and dynamic composition that influenced modern advertising and visual communication.
