A scale model of a proposed Museum of Sex in New York, crafted in resin, Plexiglass, wood, and acrylic to show a flowing, translucent facade intended to entice and animate the street.
At first glance a soft, amber, undulating skin made of stacked rectangular panels glows like a curtain, and the tiny model figures at the base make the facade’s theatrical scale and street-level engagement immediately legible.
The project exemplifies a late‑20th‑century shift toward expressive architectural “skins” and the use of new materials and light to turn buildings into immersive, public-facing spectacles, a direction that helped define SHoP’s material experimentation in urban design.
