A special-edition issue of the journal Parkett—a periodical produced to carry four commissioned projects by contemporary artists so their work could be distributed, collected, and discussed beyond the gallery.
The cover hits you with a gently vibrating field of vertical, wavy bands in black, gray and cool blue while an ornate, gold-textured ‘‘PARKETT’’ masthead and small bright-orange artist names puncture the pattern, creating a lively tension between Op-art rhythm and decorative type.
Parkett helped rewrite the magazine as an art object by commissioning artist editions and collaborations that made contemporary work widely distributable and collectible, and this 2001 issue is a clear example of that collaborative, boundary-crossing approach.
