You'd first notice the bright red, papery figures repeated through rooms and gardens—connected by a luminous yellow thread—set against teal interiors and a pink-purple clouded sky, with metallic foil flashes that make the scene feel both playful and disconcerting.
Holstad folds queer bodies and erotic narrative into the language of midcentury domestic imagery, using collage to disrupt tidy suburban myths and to participate in a contemporary revival of figurative assemblage that questions private/public boundaries.
