Nick Mauss
American and German, born 1980
2003
A hybrid drawing by Nick Mauss that uses synthetic polymer paint, felt‑tip pen, and carbon‑paper transfer to set delicate, hand-drawn figures against sweeping, marbleized fields of color.
At first glance you see oceanic green-and-blue marbling framing a central white void where faint pen sketches, loose graphite scratches, and tiny colored triangles hover like fragments of a memory.
By combining marbled paint, mechanical transfer, and intimate line work, the work blurs painting and drawing and exemplifies early-2000s experiments with layered processes and fragile, hybrid image-making.
