A long wooden scale model showing a sequence of small, house-like pavilions mounted on a beam, made to test how a linked series of compact volumes could create a ‘bridge’ of inhabitable spaces for a Melbourne site.
Seen up close it reads like a tiny, rhythmic cityscape—repeated boxy forms with punched windows, varied roof shapes and deep portals carved from warm wood, making abstract plans feel tactile and human-scaled.
The piece encapsulates Steven Holl’s approach to architecture as a sequence of experiential, light-filled rooms—using a sculptural model to explore how modular domestic volumes can reconfigure urban passage and atmosphere.
