Untitled (you are one horrific...)
Jon Pylypchuk
Canadian, born 1973
2003
A small mixed-media drawing and collage in which Pylypchuk stitches together fabric scraps, synthetic fur, toy eyes, ink and glued paper to compose toy‑like, grotesque creatures that are at once playful and menacing.
A spare, slightly folded-paper landscape is punctured by three fuzzy hybrids whose staring toy eyes, messy stitching, dripping ink and glitter create a comic, uncanny animation and a feeling of brittle vulnerability.
The piece typifies a turn in contemporary drawing toward assemblage and tactile materials, blending craft, cartoon and sculpture to expand how narrative and the grotesque operate in fine art.
