Platz der Verschwendung
Andreas Siekmann
German, born 1961
1998
A small, densely worked drawing in felt‑tip pen, watercolor, paint pen, and colored pencil on paper (in its cardboard case), Siekmann stages a theatrical heap of furniture and objects to examine consumer excess and discarded everyday life.
The eye is grabbed by a frenetic carnival of saturated color and layered marks—chairs, sofas, lamps and oversized lettered signs tumble forward beneath bright industrial windows, producing a claustrophobic yet playful thrift‑store panorama.
Dating from 1998, the piece links late‑20th‑century critiques of consumption and waste with a hybrid, graphic-painterly approach that transforms tossed household things into a densely patterned, almost sculptural still life.
