Fourteen Etchings 5
Terry Winters
American, born 1949
1989
A print that pairs a precise etched and aquatinted spherical lattice with a small photogravure of a translucent shoulder joint, using printmaking to probe the relationship between abstract systems and the body.
You first notice a dense, web‑like orb of interlocking triangles occupying the upper field, its tactile lines hovering above a quietly modeled, x‑ray‑like study of a joint, both images set into wide, empty margins.
By combining etching, aquatint, and photogravure on one sheet, Winters broadened the expressive possibilities of printmaking, merging scientific/medical imagery with geometric abstraction to rethink how we see complex natural structures.
