Postal Dossier (Dossier postale)
Alighiero Boetti
Italian, 1940–1994
1969-70
A paperboard folder containing photocopies in which Boetti makes the postal envelope and a clipped Touring Club map into the artwork’s content, documenting a simple journey as an administrative record.
The sober gray card, cut-away tabs and blue type look like a bureaucratic file—only to reveal a tiny, schematic rectangle map with four place-names and stamped dates, a spare, procedural elegance.
An example of Boetti’s conceptual turn that treated mail, photocopying, and bureaucratic forms as artistic media, helping to broaden art into networks, process, and archived documentation.
