Jan Dibbets
Dutch, born 1941
1973
A chromogenic print that arranges repeated photographs of a tilted skylight, where Jan Dibbets uses small shifts of angle and moment to turn an ordinary window into a study of framing and perception.
You notice the cool blue rectangle of sky repeating against the oblique geometry of the window and the black film margins, so that tiny differences of angle, light, and reflection take on a rhythmic, sculptural presence.
Emerging from 1970s conceptual photography, the work demonstrates how serial images and subtle variation could convert a mundane architectural detail into a rigorous inquiry into vision, time, and the conventions of photographic display.
