Parc de la Villette Project, Paris, France (Plan)
Zaha Hadid
British, born Iraq. 1950–2016
1982-83
An architectural proposal rendered as ten photoelectrostatic prints on polymer sheets fastened with metal screws, in which Zaha Hadid stages a fragmented, kinetic plan for Parc de la Villette that choreographs movement and events across the site.
You’re struck by translucent, layered drawings of intersecting diagonals and spidery lines that seem to rotate and explode across the sheet, with faint typed notes at the top and isolated geometric ‘follies’ giving a ghostly sense of simultaneity and motion.
These graphic, collage-like plans exemplify Hadid’s radical 1980s approach—turning architectural drawing into a performative act that helped define deconstructivist and avant‑garde architectural thinking and opened new ways to imagine urban experience.
