Endless Theatre Project, Plan
Frederick Kiesler
American, born Austria-Hungary. 1890–1965
1924
A large print mounted on board presenting Kiesler’s plan for the Endless Theatre—an experimental, spiraling performance space meant to create an uninterrupted, immersive relationship between actors and audience.
You first notice the monumental, pale spirals and a central wheel-like motif set against a muted brown ground, their sweeping curves pulling the eye along a continuous path that implies rotation, motion, and enveloping space.
This plan articulates Kiesler’s radical break with proscenium theatre conventions, proposing a continuous, non-hierarchical theatrical environment that anticipated later immersive installations, environmental theatre, and avant‑garde approaches to space.
