Folio XXVIII from Bewitching Kisses (Besos Brujos)
Alberto Greco
Argentine, 1931–1965
1965
A torn, handwritten folio from Alberto Greco’s 1965 artist’s book Bewitching Kisses that assembles ink, ballpoint, felt-tip, watercolor, and cut-and-pasted paper into an intimate, repeated love confession.
It reads like a found love note: looping, uneven Spanish lines tumble down the left side with small stains, a stamped copyright and publisher scrawl at the bottom, and the paper’s torn edges and penciled numbers give it an urgent, lived-in presence.
By elevating private handwriting and ordinary materials into a circulated object, Greco blurred art and life and helped open paths for Latin American Conceptual and neo‑avant‑garde practices that treated everyday gesture as artistic performance.
