Untitled (Fragment 7) from Fragments
Bridget Riley
British, born 1931
1965
A screenprint on acrylic sheet in which Bridget Riley arranges repeating black ovals into a shifting lattice that makes the flat surface appear to vibrate and move.
A dense, left‑packed field of evenly spaced black ovals progressively shrinks and stretches into a narrow, trailing line to the right, creating a shimmering illusion of depth and speed against the white ground.
A hallmark of 1960s Op Art, it shows Riley’s exploration of how simple repetition, contrast, and precise spacing can turn minimal forms into active perceptual, almost kinetic, experiences.
