Five large ink-on-tracing-paper plans that record Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s effort to lay out and formalize a monumental, modern banking complex for the National Commercial Bank in Jeddah.
These drawings show SOM’s export of late-20th-century corporate modernism to the Gulf—demonstrating how careful planning, monumental form, and sensitivity to local conditions shaped the internationalization of architectural practice and the visual identity of finance during the oil boom.
