Urbanization
With the Industrial Revolution came widespread migration to big cities in the United States and parts of Western Europe, and this influx of people led to developments like skyscrapers and large-scale public transit. Most new migrants lived in rentals and tenement buildings, often clustered into new neighborhoods by cultural and ethnic origin. There they built communities and worked to maintain cultural traditions. Noise, pollution, health, and social problems became inescapable in this shifting urban landscape.
