Untitled
Gabriel Kohn
American, 1910–1975
1963
This 1963 lithograph presents a page of energetic, sketchlike studies in which the artist works out small abstract, joinable three‑dimensional components—as if designing a sculpture or a piece of furniture.
You first notice a scatter of bold, hand‑drawn modules—curved blocks, notches, arrows and crossed‑out variants—rendered in black and white against a warm tan ground so that the rough highlights and decisive marks read like a designer’s working diagram.
By publishing a working sheet as a print, Kohn foregrounds the process of making—bridging mid‑century industrial design, sculptural abstraction, and the idea that drawings can reveal creative decisions as powerfully as finished objects.
