Untitled from E. G., A.....
Jesse Reichek
American, 1916–2005
1966
An abstract lithograph in which Jesse Reichek explores positive and negative space with flat, biomorphic shapes that push and pull against a pale ground.
You first notice two undulating vertical bands that split the cream sheet, with dark, puddle-like forms pressing in from left and right; the even, flat ink and the paper’s deckled edge make the composition feel both graphic and tactile.
Made in 1966, the print brings the concerns of postwar abstraction—edge, repetition, and the tension between figure and ground—into the medium of lithography, demonstrating how prints could participate in contemporary painting debates.
